How it works

How Nurevo's cognitive screening works

A short guided conversation on a phone or laptop is analysed across four signal streams. A cross-modal transformer combines them into one risk score and shows which signals contributed most.

  • 1 A short guided conversation on a phone or laptop.
  • 2 Speech, language, facial movement and background information are analysed together.
  • 3 A cross-modal transformer combines them into one explainable risk score.

From conversation to clinician review

A conversation is split into four streams: speech, language, facial movement and background information. A model combines them into a risk score.

A conversation

A short guided conversation on a phone or laptop. It is low-burden, and it is designed to feel like a conversation rather than a test. The conversation is designed for everyday devices: a phone or a laptop.

The four streams

  • Speech timing and voice

    What we look at

Speech timing and voice: pauses, rate, rhythm and fluency. These parts of speech carry across languages.

  • Language

    What we look at

Language: vocabulary, structure and coherence. Existing screening was largely designed around one language and culture. Nurevo is built for multilingual populations from the start.

  • Facial movement

    What we look at

    Facial movement during the conversation.

  • Background information

    What we look at

Background information: age, education and other context.

03

The model

A cross-modal transformer combines the four streams into one risk score. The streams are analysed together, rather than as separate results that a person must reconcile.

04

The risk score

The risk score shows which signals contributed most. A clinician can see what informed the result. That is what we mean by explainable by design.

Illustrative example. These marks are not a result.

Human in the loop

The risk score helps clinicians decide who needs specialist assessment first. A clinician can see what informed the result.

What it is not

Nurevo is a screening and triage tool in development. It is not a diagnostic device and is not currently available for clinical use.
